About 30 people came to the Center Point Historical Society annual Harvest Potluck, this year honoring WWII veterans and their families and held in partnership with the Center Point American Legion and Auxiliary.
Speaking at the informal program following the 5 p.m. supper were: Dr. Kenneth Andersen, a WWII vet; Ken Dinger, a Korean vet who had just been on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.; Paul Schantz, a Viet Nam vet and WWII buff who recently went on a WWII tour to Europe; and Jon Brendel, another WWII buff who in this year’s Historical Society Cemetery Walk portrayed Chuck Oxley, a member of the atomic bomb unit on Tinian in WWII. Historical Society member Teresa Scheeler also shared letters and news reports about Raymond Durow, who was briefly missing in action but survived after his ship was sunk in the Pacific. His widow Evelyn attended.
Food was provided by Historical Society members, Legion Auxiliary members, and attendees. The informal potluck committee was: Nancy and Tom Krapfl, Paul Schantz, Teresa and Dan Scheeler, Sharon Hannen and Philip Andersen.
