The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II and Central Region met at 1:00 pm November 19, 2014 at Vinton Public Library with Michelle Foshi-Gibson as hostess.
President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 1:00 pm. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the conservation pledge. Six members answered the roll call “do you grow orchids?”.
The secretary and treasurers reports were read and approved.
Correspondence – Iowa Natural Heritage magazine was passed around for members to look at. We contribute to Iowa Natural Heritage yearly.
Committee reports – news put in paper and on Vinton Today, Garden Therapy committee Sharen Stueck and Kelly Kaut.will get containers ready with oasis. We will be doing 37 designs with the Virginia Gay Annex residents. Members need to bring greens, we will buy red carnations. Everyone is working on new members.
Unfinished business – Fran and Ted attended Accents on Entertaining in Marshalltown on Friday November 7th. The event has a preview of the decorated tables night before the brunch. The table designs were unique and beautiful as usual. Pictures of the tables were passed around.
Ted and Fran pulled up annuals and cut off sedum at Schrebrings, Blue Star Marker and fairground planters on a calm sunny day. Fran was cleaning off the Welcome to Vinton sign and they went into town and filled the pickup. There will be less to do in the spring.
Need suggestions for programs and tours you would like to hear and see for 2015.
The December 3rd meeting will be a potluck at 11:00 am in the Hospital cafeteria boardroom. Therapy with the residents is scheduled for 2:00 pm and judging Smokey Bear Posters afterwards.
New business – We welcome new member Dawn Kaut.
We have a request from Sharon Happel from the Horridge House to landscape flowerbeds around the house.
Annual plant and bake sale set for Friday, May 8th.
We will be planning the flower show with Van Horne Floralia and working on next years programs soon.
A reminder to bring $10 or bring mittens, hats, sweatpants, etc. for Tilford Elementary School children to the December meeting.
After meeting Michelle gave an interesting program on repotting orchids and how to take care of them. Members are excited to go out and buy an orchid for their home.
