Regan Naughton from Bow, New Hampshire is serving on team Cedar 2 in AmeriCorps NCCC Corps Class 21. She arrived in Vinton in February of 2015 to start her 10-month service term with the program. Cedar 2 is made up of nine people from across the country who serve together around the Midwest.

Before her term of service, Regan graduated from Bow High School in June 2014. Afterwards, she attended the New Hampshire Technical Institute, a community college in Concord, to study Human Services. Regan brings an array of different skills to the program including prior community service experience and knowledge of American Sign Language.

Regan talks about her motivation to join the program, “I wanted more hands-on experiences with helping people in need and time to explore possible career opportunities for future study.”

Cedar 2 served on their first project in Lincoln Park, Michigan with Habitat for Humanity Detroit where they primarily assisted with installing siding, painting, setting doors, installing cabinets, and installing trim material for two homes. Additionally, they begun construction on a third home which entailed framing, roofing, siding, and completing its exterior.

They are currently on their second project in Oregon, Illinois serving with Stronghold Camp and Retreat center from April 30 to June 11. The team is assisting with Stronghold’s ecosystem management plan by removing invasive plant species such as autumn olive, honeysuckles, buckthorn, and burning bush. They are using herbicides to prevent growth and cut existing brush. The team is also setting up four long-term monitoring systems to observe plant ecosystems and mark meter square areas for easy identification.

After completing the program in November, Regan plans on returning to college to finish her studies.
