On Wednesday, June 3, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Officer Team joined many other officer teams in the Northeast District at Hawkeye Community College to attend COLT, or Chapter Officer Leadership Training.

COLT started off with opening ceremony with the Northeast District Officers then separating the officers into their groups based on the office held. All officers went to a specific to their office session where they learned what their duties were and how to be the best officer they can be. After that session ended the members were split up further based on tag and dot colors, allowing them to interact with different chapter officers in the other sessions.

The other session consisted of recruitment ideas, professional development, stakeholders, and getting to know yourself and how you work with others.

The recruitment session had the officers talking about different ways their chapters do to get members involved or to seek out new members, along with how the officers should represent themselves while trying to reach out to others.

The professional development session revolved around how to greet one another properly as well as discussing what bad official dress looks like, telling the officers that they need to look presentable and wear the correct official dress because they are who the members look up to.

The stakeholder session included discussion over people with power over others- such as the legislator or in the case of the FFA/Ag in school, the school board. The officers had to give a presentation over why a school should either keep or be introduced to the National FFA Organization.

After the sessions the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter Officers left for home, leaving with a better idea of what their positions call for and how to be the best officers that they can be.
