Jaclyn Shear is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and has recently been hired as the Community Relations Associate for the North Central Region.
She graduated in 2014 from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York with a degree in Mass Communications. As an active member of the campus body she served as a meteorologist, writer for the University paper and reporter for the local news station. Jaclyn also served two terms as student government president during her junior and senior year. Her commitment to service began early as a member of the Tara Knights Society whose mission is to dedicate themselves to service, mission, and to impact both our world and local communities.
This is not Jacklyn’s first experience with AmeriCorps NCCC. Last year, she served as a Class 21 FEMA Corps team leader for Pine 2 here in Vinton. She describes her motivation for joining, “I wanted to do a year of service for the professional and leadership development opportunities that this program had to offer.”
As the Community Relations Associate, her responsibilities include supporting the Community Relations office with event planning, social media and media generation, and corps member and team leader recruitment.
She describes why she returned as a full time staff member, “I really enjoyed interacting with the Vinton staff. I want to give back to the campus and continue learning from the program. I hope to contribute my skills and promote the message with others through recruitment and media.”
