Gustavo "Gus" Davila from North Hills, California is as the Program Office Support Team Leader in AmeriCorps NCCC Corps Class 21. This is his second term with AmeriCorps NCCC after serving as a corps member on the team Maple 8 at the Vinton campus. He arrived in Vinton in January of 2015 to start his 11-month service term with the program. As the Program Office support team leader, Gus assists with project outreach activities, the organization of special events, identifies potential sponsor organizations, and maintains service learning resources.
Before his first term of service with Class 20, he attended Los Angeles Valley Community College to study International Relations. Gus served on various projects as a corps member including organic farming with a Native American tribe, being a counselor for people with mental and physical disabilities, and disaster response in Detroit.
Gus talks about his motivation for joining NCCC for a second year, “I knew last year that this is where I am meant to be if I want to grow and be challenged. I couldn’t get enough of it, and decided to come back for a second term. Having the opportunity to meet so many people through national service is one of the most rewarding ways to make new friends. The skills and experiences that I am gaining while being an AmeriCorps NCCC member are far beyond what I expected. Cant’ stop, won’t stop!”
After completing the program in November, he plans on working for a non-profit organization abroad involved with human rights and social change.
