This year, the Benton Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners are very happy to announce that they have selected two recipients for their Annual Scholarship. Each will receive a $200 scholarship award. Students who reside in Benton County and are pursuing a course of study in the field of Natural Resources or Agriculture are eligible to apply. The Commissioners received and reviewed applications in March, and made their selections.

Cole Emrich graduates from Vinton-Shellsburg High School this May and was chosen to receive one of the Benton SWCD Scholarships. Cole has been a very active member of his FFA Chapter throughout his High School career. He will be attending Kirkwood Community College for training in Agriculture Production Management, Crop and Beef Production, Agriculture Geospatial Technology, Fertilizer Management and Row Crop and Forage Production.

Mitchell Hanson, graduating from Union High School in La Porte City, is the second recipient of a Benton SWCD Scholarship. He has been very active in 4-H and FFA, at the local, state and national levels. Mitchell will seek degrees in Ag Studies and Ag Business.

The Benton SWCD Commissioners congratulate each of these students and wish him well as they pursues their educational and career goals.
