The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II and Central Region met 12:30pm, Aprl 27 at Vinton Public Library with Bristol Gibson as hostess. The program “Soaring with the Eagles” speaker, Karen Phelps, Benton County Naturalist, presented a very interesting program.

President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 1:30pm. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Conservation Pledge.

Nine members answered roll call by answering if they ever watched eagles?

Secretary Joyce Bratten read the minutes from March meeting. There were no corrections so the minutes will stand approved as read

Treasurer Sharen Stueck gave the treasurer's report. There were no bills to be paid. Rosie Boisen made the motion to approve the treasurer's report and Anne Dake seconded the motion, it was filed for audit.

Unfinished Business:

Michelle reported on Garden Therapy at the Cedar Valley Ranch was held on April 21, 7 members attended and helped 30 residents plant seeds in containers for them to watch and care for so they can plant the flowers in their flowerbeds outside. Fran thanked Rosie, Michelle, Bristol, Joyce, Anne and Susie for helping.

The Club changed the plant and bake sale to Friday, April 29, 2016 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at the open class building at the fairgrounds. Ted and Fran had gone in and set up the tables two weeks early so no one would take the tables, the box crew met at Fareway on Saturday at 7am to get boxes for the sale. The crew was Ted, Fran, Rosie, Sharen, Anne and Joyce. The manager Dave Kelchen is very helpful in having the employees help save the boxes for us. Thursday members will take their plants out and get everything all set up. Friday at 4:30pm members are to take baked goods out and have all ready by 5pm to open the doors.

Fran asked how many were signing up to go to the District II meeting in Decorah, Ia. Reservations are to be sent today, they are due May 1st. Sharen will mail list of names and money, club will pay for the day but if you don't go then you will reimburse the club the money

Benton County will hold the 2017 District II meeting on Friday May 5, 2017 at Van Horne at the Community Building. Plans will be made for the day later with the 3 clubs, Van Horne Floralia, Cottage Garden and Vinton Garden Club.

Fran passed out the list of cement containers etc. that the members plant for the parks and Recreation.

Fran checked with Brad Barker at Parks and Recreation if they needed a tree for any of the parks. He will ask Brian and get back with us.

Our scholarship winner was chosen at a special meeting held on April 8, 2016, Recipient chosen is Joel Barnes.

Fran thanked Bristol for being the hostess and it was also her birthday so members sang Happy Birthday to her.

Fran adjourned the meeting.
