While the Vinton-Shellsburg Jazz Band was competing in Des Moines, the Art students were also just off Interstate 80, competing in the annual WaMaC Art Fair at Tiffin.
The event takes place in the city of a conference school each year.
This year, the V-S artists won several honors, including a Best of Show and Artists' Choice, voted on by the partipants.
Dylan Vaugn won the Best of Show with his 3-D work called "Why Not." Brea Stephenson won the Choice Award with her acrylic painting in three sections.
Teachers Ann Diedrichson and Chris Juhl spent the year working with the students as they planned, designed and finished their projects.
Ms. Juhl has a simple explanation for the students' success this year, as in other years.
"Our students are awesome," she said.
