Et cetera : What We're Reading: A wish in the dark

Children's literature contains some of my favorite adventure stories; Christina Soontornvat's novel 'A Wish In The Dark' is no exception! It's a retelling of Victor Hugo's 'Les Miserables' set in Thailand.

We meet Pong, born into captivity in Namwon Prison, and Nok, determined to do what's right at all costs. A Newberry Honor Book, this is the perfect book to share with the young readers in your life. The gentle tie-in to such a well known classic is also refreshing. If you enjoy this book, I would also highly recommend 'The Last Mapmaker' by the same author.
