Senator Chuck Grassley met this week with Robert and Carolyn Spading, and their children, Greggory and McKinley, of Atkins, while they were on vacation in Washington, D.C.
Grassley and the visitors discussed the debt ceiling, the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, federal labor laws, and Grassley’s annual visits to each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Grassley also told them about the availability of internships in his offices for college students and nominations for appointments to U.S. service academies.
“I enjoy talking with Iowans, answering their questions and hearing their views,” Grassley said. “Constituents meeting with elected officials is key to the success of representative government. These meetings help to keep our democracy strong.”
Grassley makes it a priority to sit down with Iowans when they’re in Washington. In Iowa, he has held at least one constituent meeting in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties every year since he was first elected to the Senate in 1980. In addition to regular meetings, Grassley responds to every constituent letter, email and phone call. He communicates with Iowans on facebook, twitter and at http://grassley.senate.gov. He is a regular guest on public affairs broadcasts statewide, where he responds to questions from Iowans.
