On Thursday, January 26, 2012, Traer’s Pool Committee will hold a community forum to discuss the future of the city’s swimming pool and bathhouse. The public meeting will be held from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the Traer Library, 531 2nd Street. Lack of modern amenities coupled with structural and mechanical deterioration prompted Traer City Council Member, Mr. Lee Wiges, to organize a volunteer Pool Committee to research options for Traer’s aging facility. A professional feasibility study conducted in June 2011 indicated that action regarding the swimming pool ranked high on the list of the City’s priorities amongst study participants. “We hope to build on the momentum already in favor of action and continue a robust and open community conversation through a series of public forums,” said Mr. Wiges. “These meetings will be a great resource for anyone who wants to learn more about the pool project, provide input and get involved in this important growth opportunity for Traer.” Recently Mr. Wiges agreed to serve as General Chair of Traer’s Pool Fundraising Project, the Keep FIT (Families in Traer) Campaign. President of Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, Traer, Darlys Hulme, accepted the Pool Committee’s invitation to serve as the Honorary Chair for the Keep FIT Campaign. “On behalf of Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, I am thrilled to be a part of such an exciting community project,” said Ms. Hulme. “Besides attending the forum meeting, residents can provide input through an online survey,” explained Ms. Hulme. The Pool Committee deployed an online survey to encourage people to provide anonymous input on the pool project. All Traer-area residents are encouraged to complete the 12-question online survey.
