Name: Rachel Evans

Hometown: Renton, Washington

Rachel Evans is serving a second year with the NCCC campus in Vinton, Iowa. She served last year as member of Class 17. For Class 18 she is serving as a Field Team Leader where she will be leading a team of 10-12 Corps Members while they serve on projects throughout the North Central Region.

Rachel decided to serve with NCCC for a second year because her year as a Corps Member gave her so many good and challenging experiences and skills that she wanted to continue building upon these experiences and skills in a different role. She also wants to travel more and learn more from the people she will meet through the program and through her team’s service projects.

Rachel brings the following skills to her Team Leader position prior experience in AmeriCorps, which includes: communication, conflict resolution, organization, general friendliness, leadership, certifications in random things like fork lift operation and tax preparation. She also brings experience with local community service work in Tacoma and Whidbey Island, Washington.

Rachel graduated from South Whidbey High School and University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare and a Minor in Criminal Justice. She learned about NCCC in college when she became an AmeriCorps Students in Service Program Assistant and through that role met fellow college students who served with AmeriCorps NCCC.

Prior to NCCC in 2011, Rachel was working part-time at Macy's, Inc. as a Fine Jewelry Sales Associate and at a school district as a substitute Para educator. After completing her Team Leader year, she intends to apply to Graduate schools with attractive dual degree programs in Law and Social Work. She also hopes to look into traveling and short-term international volunteer projects. Additionally, she will be applying to participate in Bike & Build 2013.
