Name: Emily Martinez

Hometown: Eureka, California

Emily is serving her second term with AmeriCorps NCCC as the Team Leader for Oak 5 at the Vinton campus. She served her first term with the Southwest NCCC campus in Denver, Colorado as a Class 17 Corps Member. She is bringing the following skills to her Team Leader position: good communication skills, time management, conflict resolution and basic knowledge of tools and safety.

Emily who graduated from Arcata High School in 2007 first heard about the NCCC program in 2010 when she met a friend who had previously been in AmeriCorps NCCC at the Sacramento campus, she told Emily of the wonderful experience she had and Emily applied that very day.

Emily chose to serve with NCCC because it was exactly the type of service program she was looking for, the opportunity to help and make a difference while learning along the way. Emily had such an amazing experience as a Corps Member that she wanted to come back as a Team Leader so that she might help and encourage Corps Members so that they have a great experience.

A unique experience from her Corps Member year was having the opportunity to stay at a camp on a lake where Emily learned to weld and rewire the electrical wiring in two cabins.
