VINTON GARDEN CLUB
June 27,2012
The Vinton Garden Club member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Central Region, Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, Inc. and District II met at the fairgrounds office for their June 27th meeting. Nine members attended with flowers from their gardens for a design and Horticulture workshop. Fran Stueck gave the class and then each member made a design from their flowers.
Lunch was at Peppys Ice Cream then back to the fairgrounds office for the meeting.
President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order. Members recited the pledge of Allegiance and the Conservation Pledge. Roll call was answered by “what is your favorite garden flower.”
Secretary Joyce Bratten read the minutes from Mays meeting. There were no corrections so it stands as read.
Treasurer Connie McClintock gave the treasurer’s report.
There were no questions for the treasurer’s report so it will be filed for audit.
There will be garden therapy at the Annex July 5th, 2012 at 1:30p.m. All members are to attend with some flowers from their gardens to help.
Members had taken their flowers designs and flower bouquets to the area business as planned on Garden Week.
There were 4 members who attended the state meeting held in Pella, Ia. on June 22, Fran Stueck, Cam Wood, Luanna Hawkins, and Joyce Bratten. Fran entered the flower show and she received 1st place on her design “A Vision of Earth, Wind & Fire.” She received 1st place and top NGC award Collectors’ Showcase for her collection of 8 specimens. The club received at State level 1st place and Central Region 2nd place for their book of evidence on Garden Therapy.
Fran was inducted as a charter member in the “Circle of Roses” which was given to her for her 35 years as a member of the Vinton Garden Club, leadership, teaching club members the objectives of FGCI, flower arranging and contributing 110% to all the projects the club does. Fran has been a fair board member of 38 years being superintendent of the Open Class Building. She has been a Master Gardener since 2003 maintaining the Welcome to Vinton sign north 218, the Tilford Elementary garden and other projects around town.
NEW BUSINESS:
The fair flower show is July 26-29, 2012.
There will be no meeting held in July.
Our next meeting is August 29th in Cedar Rapids.
