By Kyle White NCCC team Cedar Three has been working with Home Sweet Home Ministries in Bloomington, Ill. from July 16 to August 10. Home Sweet Home is a faith-based non-profit organization that offers shelter to the homeless in the Bloomington-Normal area of Illinois as well as free meals to those in need. The ministry houses more than 100 people in their shelter. In the basement of the home resides the food pantry which feeds the shelter’s clients as well as members of the community. Along with the shelter and food pantry, Home Sweet Home is also supported by two thrift stores, one in Bloomington the other being in Lincoln, Ill. both possessing items all donated by local residents and companies. With both the food pantry in the shelter, Shelper Center, as well as the thrift store, Mission Mart, in Lincoln needing minor renovations to help stay above health codes; NCCC team Cedar Three was called on by Home Sweet Home to strip flooring in both locations and relay carpeting in the Mission Mart and repainting the floor in the food pantry. Cedar Three had to buckle down in order to reopen both locations right on schedule. With the Lincoln Mission Mart reopening July 28, 2012 and the Shelper Center’s food pantry reopening August 11,2012; Home Sweet Home was left astounded with the outcome of their NCCC team, looking forward to receive another NCCC team next year and Cedar Three rearing to get to their next project.
