By: Rachel Lebeaux Name: Stephen Wasp Hometown: Glen Head, N.Y. Stephen is currently serving as a member of Maple 4, a fire team, with the AmeriCorps NCCC at the Vinton Campus. He is excited to expand his horizons in the country which has afforded him so many opportunities. Steven brings a variety of skills to his team and the Corps as a whole. He has a New York State EMT-b certification and is an interior qualified firefighter. Stephen graduated from North Shore High School in 2007. He then attended the Rochester Institute of Technology. Stephen has also been cooking in a kitchen and volunteering at a firehouse. He would like to go to Paramedic School after his term of service. Stephen has his team are currently serving in Minot, N.D. with Lutheran Disaster Services. The team is sanitizing homes that were destroyed by last summer’s floods. Before this project the team was assisting with programming at the SuAnne Big Crow Boys and Girls Club in Pine Ridge, S.D., assisting in the Volunteer Reception Center with the Metro United Way in Henryville, Ind. and preforming prescribed burns, invasive species removal, native seed collection and educating the public the native habitat and wildlife in Needah, Wis. with the Needah National Wildlife Refuge.
