Today, we feature one of the Fema-Corps team leaders, Ashley Merchant.
Name: Ashley Merchant
Hometown: Sugarland, Texas
Ashley is serving as the Pine 3 NCCC FEMA Corps Team Leader at the Vinton Campus. She chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because she wanted to explore the emergency management field, serve her country, help others, and travel to places she has never been before.
Ashley graduated from John Foster Dulles High School in 2005 and the University of Texas at Austin in May 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and the Environment. After her service term ends she plans to attend graduate school for a Master’s Degree in Emergency Management or Geographic Information Science.
Ashley previously served as a NCCC member at the Sacramento, CA campus. During her term of service she lived in a desert, on an island, and camped in a state park. She hopes to add to her list of interesting living situations while serving with NCCC FEMA Corps this year.
