AmeriCorps NCCC team, Oak 2, worked in Oscoda, Mich. with YMCA Camp Nissokone. At Camp Nissokone, NCCC members had the chance to experience the various camp activities while working to improve the facilities for future campers. The enthusiastic Mick Lee was the point of contact for the camp and provided NCCC members with a work hard play, hard attitude. Oak 2 served 300 campers three meals a day for the first week. After that, members helped to continue improvement around the camp's infrastructure. The team painted three cabins, built barriers and obstacles for a paintball course, chopped firewood to fill up two sheds, maintained the fence that surrounds the camp property and engaged with the staff to have fun while working to get things done. YMCA Camp Nissokone is located on 170 acres of spectacular lakefront. Campers stay in comfortable cabins with modern bathrooms. The camp has a wide variety of age appropriate activities and programs to suit any camper's interest, including a lake and 1,000 acres of national forest that surround the camp. Nissokone is perfect for getting out in nature to adventure and play.
