Name: Andrew Burns

Hometown: Canal Winchester, Ohio

Andrew is serving as the Hickory 1 NCCC FEMA Corps Team Leader at the Vinton Campus. He chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because he wanted an opportunity to gain career direction, grow as an individual, and develop leadership experience while giving back to different communities.

Andrew graduated from Canal Winchester High School in 2008 and the University of Kentucky in May 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in communication and leadership development. After his service term ends he hopes to work in a government job that focuses on service while providing an opportunity for travel. His dream job is to work as a special agent for the FBI, a U.S. Marshal or a Secret Service agent.

Andrew gained leadership experience at an early age, starting out as a Cub Scout before graduating to Boy Scouts. At age 16 he started his Eagle Scout project, which involved running a food drive and building shelving for the local food pantry. After he gained the rank of Eagle Scout he continued to earn merit and in 2005 he was awarded “Eagle Scout of the Year” for his district from his local VFW.
