Today's NCCC Spotlight is on Jana Barcavage of Class 18. Name: Jana Barcavage Hometown: Cold Spring, NY Jana is currently serving as a member of Maple 6 with the AmeriCorps NCCC at the Vinton Campus. Jana brings negotiations skills, adaptability, self-reliance, independence, planning and budgeting skills to her team. She worked with NCCC members at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in New Orleans and heard great things about this program. Jana believes that NCCC provides a great experience that give opportunities to gain valuable skills that will help in the transition from school to the work force. Jana graduated from Haldane High School in June 2007 and SUNY Albany in December 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Political Science. Jana had the unique opportunity to study, work and volunteer in Prague, Czech Republic and Santiago, Chile during her college years. She is hoping to go back abroad and teach English after her term of service. Jana and her team are currently in Park Rapids, Minn. working with the Itasca Moraine Chapter, NCTA. They are completing the building of the Waboose Loop Trail. Prior to this project, Maple 6 was in Valparaiso, Ind. working with the Talltree Arboretum providing environmental education to schools and working in the gardens. Other projects include disaster recovery in Minot, N.D. with Lutheran Disaster Response and tutoring at the Guadalupe Alternative Program in St. Paul, Minn.
