By: Rachel Lebeaux Name: Jimmy Cartegena Hometown: Quakertown, Penn. Jimmy is serving as a member of Maple 5 with AmeriCorps NCCC at the Vinton Campus. Jimmy is a quick learner that is able to take any task and accomplish it right away. He believes that giving back and helping others is essential to a fulfilling life. Jimmy started his term with NCCC after serving a year with another AmeriCorps Program, Greater Philadelphia City Year. Although, Jimmy has always been on sports teams, his experience with City Year allowed him to further understand the dynamics of working with on a diverse team. Jimmy graduated from Quakertown High School in 2007. He then attended Bucks County Community College for two years. After serving his term, Jimmy would like to become a firefighter. Jimmy and his team are currently serving in Henryville, Ind. with Indiana Habitat for Humanity. They are rebuilding homes damaged by the March 2 tornadoes. Prior to this project, Jimmy and his team were working in Willow River, Minn. with Camp One Heartland as camp counselors for individuals who are infected with HIV. The team also served in Wapello, Iowa with the Louisa County Conservation Board. The team performed prescribed burns, removed invasive species and taught environmental education classes.
