By: Rachel Lebeaux Name: Keivon Henderson Hometown: Richmond City, Virginia Keivon is currently serving as a member of Oak 6 with the AmeriCorps NCCC at the Vinton Campus Keivon chose to join NCCC after getting advice from his father. His father was a corps member is Class 2 and described to Keivon how eye opening the experience was and the opportunities it presents. Keivon graduated from James River High School in 2011. Prior to starting his service, Keivon was working at target but he would like to join the National Guard when his term of service is completed. Keivon and his team are currently serving in Milwaukee, Wis. with The Nature Conservancy and Milwaukee County Parks and Rec. They are removing invasive species and assisting with land management. Prior to this project, Oak 6 was serving in Pierre, S.D. at the Oahe Family YMCA working with summer programming. They also performed trail building with the Army Corps of Engineers in Coralville, Iowa. Oak 6’s first project was in Oxford, Mich. assisting Crossroads for Youth.
