Name: Nidia Carreira Hometown: Newark, NJ Nidia is currently serving as a member of Cedar 3 with the AmeriCorps NCCC at the Vinton Campus. Nidia is fluent in Portuguese and brings a wide variety of experiences to NCCC. She has had exposure to different cultures and backgrounds though her travel and work. Nidia graduated from Science Park High School in June 2006 and Rutgers University-New Brunswick in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and Psychology. Prior to joining NCCC Nidia traveled around Europe for eight months and worked for a non-profit called, Prevent Child Abuse-NJ, as an Office Assistant. Nidia would like to continue working in the non-profit sector after her term of service. Nidia and Cedar 3 just completed their last project, working with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Columbus in Columbus, Ohio. They worked on rehabbing houses, constructing new homes and assisting the ReStore. Prior to this project, Cedar 3 worked with the UP State Fair in Escanaba, Mich., assisting with maintenance and repair of fair structures. They also worked in Beatrice, Neb. working with Homestead National Monument of America, removing invasive species and educating school groups about the monument. Cedar 3’s first project was located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa assisting Matthew 25 Ministries.
