Christopher Pladsen Performs In High School Honor Ensemble at Concordia University, Nebraska's Musical Arts Day
Students From Across the Country Were Selected by Audition to Participate
SEWARD, NE (11/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Christopher Pladsen of Urbana, Iowa, performed in a national high school honor choir as part of Musical Arts Day, Friday, Oct. 26, on the Concordia University, Nebraska campus. The day will culminate in a concert at 7 p.m. in the Walz Human Performance Complex arena. The concert is free and open to the public.
The honor ensembles are made up of 149 students selected by audition. These students spend six hours in rehearsal during Musical Arts Day to learn music and prepare for the evening concert. Members of the University Chamber Choir and University Symphonic Band serve as section leaders for the honor groups, helping with rehearsals and performing with the groups at the concert.
The honor choir, made up of 102 voices, will perform five selections: "O, Come, Let Us Sing" by Cindy Berry, "Adoramus te" by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, "Go Down Moses" arranged by Mark Hayes, "Katyusha" arranged by Bryan Davies, and "Freedom Train" by Rollo A. Dillworth.
Concordia's University A Cappella Choir will perform two songs as well: "Rejoice Now, Heavenly Hosts" by David von Kampen and "All Creatures of Our God and King" arranged by Anders Edenroth.
The two choirs will then combine for "No Time" by Susan Brumfield.
The honor band will perform three pieces: "Salute to the Colors" arranged by Andrew Glover, "On A Hymnsong of Philip Bliss" by David R. Holsinger and "The King Across the Water" by Bruce Fraser.
The University Symphonic Band will join in the concert with "Shepherd's Hey" by Percy Grainger, "The Seal Lullaby" by Eric Whitacre and "The Big Cage" arranged by Andrew Glover.
