Name: Bryan Adams
Hometown: Lisbon, Conn.
Bryan is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Spruce 1 at the Vinton Campus. He chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because he is committed to service and wanted to be part of a brand-new program. Prior to joining Bryan served a summer term as an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) member at School On Wheels in Indianapolis, helping run a summer arts program for homeless youth.
Bryan graduated from Griswold High School in 2007 and the Hartford Art School in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in ceramics. After his service term ends he hopes to return to school for a master’s degree in art therapy so he can pursue a career working with children who suffer from trauma-related injuries.
Bryan discovered his passion for art therapy during an internship focused on art in healthcare when he befriended a woman suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. They discovered that working together on specialized art projects helped his friend’s pain subside and made her feel more peaceful. Bryan says that his friend’s strength and perseverance has inspired him to continue helping others whenever and wherever he can.
