Name: Christine Canavan

Hometown: Caldwell, N.J.

Christine is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Hickory 1 at the Vinton Campus. She chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because she is very drawn to serving others and wanted to make a difference. She believes that a term of service will be very rewarding and contribute to her personal and professional development.

Christine graduated from James Caldwell High School in 2008 and Rutgers University in May 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and dance. After her service term ends she plans to attend graduate school and obtain a master’s degree in speech pathology.

Travel and service are complementary interests for Christine. In college she studied abroad in Glasgow, Scotland and has volunteered in New Orleans and Guatemala to build homes for people in need.
