Et cetera : AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps Class 19 Member Spotlight: Gabby Butterfield

Name: Gabby Butterfield

Hometown: Kalamazoo, Mich.

Gabby is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Pine 1 at the Vinton Campus. She chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because she wanted to explore new places, meet new people, and try new things while bringing resources and hope to people in need.

Gabby graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 2007 and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and women's studies. After her service term ends she hopes to find a job with a non-profit that focuses on women's health and reproductive justice.

One of her favorite college experiences was studying abroad in Cape Town, South Africa where she experienced new cultures, enjoyed stunning landscapes, and explored unfamiliar territory. She says that this experience was very rewarding and she gained so much as a student and person from it.
