Name: Kelly Besmer

Hometown: Snoqualmie, Wash.

Kelly is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Spruce 1 at the Vinton Campus. She first met some AmeriCorps members last year when she was volunteering with the Mountains to Sound Greenway and her interaction with them inspired her to explore national service.

Kelly graduated from Mount Si High School in 2010 and is working towards an Associate’s in Arts and Sciences Direct Transfer Degree at Bellevue College. Prior to joining NCCC FEMA Corps she earned her Washington Nursing Assistant Certification. She chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because she wanted to take a break from her routine and try something new.

After her service term ends Kelly plans to work as a certified nursing assistant at a nursing home or hospital while she works on getting into a nursing program. She is excited to explore other career paths, like emergency management, while serving in NCCC FEMA Corps to see if she should continue with nursing school.
