Name: Laura Finch
Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio
Laura is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Hickory 5 at the Vinton Campus. She chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because she wanted to do something rewarding after graduating from college and enjoys spending time with people who share a common interest in volunteerism.
Laura graduated from Cincinnati Country Day School in 2007 and Wittenberg University in 2011 where she majored in sociology. She hopes that her time in NCCC FEMA Corps will help her decide what direction to pursue afterwards. One possibility she is considering is returning to school for a master’s degree in social work.
Something that Laura is passionate about is working with people who suffer from mental illness. During college she volunteered at the National Alliance on Mental Illness. While there she conducted interviews with a gentleman suffering from schizophrenia, which she included in her senior thesis.
