Teleia Stringfellow of Riverdale, Ill, is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Hickory 5 at the Vinton Campus. She learned about AmeriCorps NCCC from her cousin who served with the program and recommended it to her. She chose to participate in NCCC FEMA Corps because she is passionate about helping others and wanted to help people on a broader scale.

Teleia graduated from Thornton Township High School in 2009 and attended Eastern Illinois University before joining NCCC FEMA Corps. After her service term ends she plans to return to college to finish her degree and possibly pursue a career in counseling.

Teleia counts her two internships at Walt Disney World as some of the best experiences of her life. These internships taught her about the importance of giving back and learning about and embracing all cultures. She says, “Because of that experience I now live by a quote by Walt Disney, ‘All of our dreams are possible, if only we have the courage to pursue them.’”

Teleia and her team are currently serving on their final project in location Hyattsville, Maryland after spending the last two rounds in New Jersey working on the Hurricane Sandy response with FEMA. They will return to Vinton in June for graduation.
