Teonna Clark, from Modesto, Calif., is a member of Oak 1 in NCCC’s Class 19. She arrived in Vinton on February 5, 2013, to start her 10-month service term on a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Oak 1 is made up of 10 people from across the country, and they will serve together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region.
“I chose this service to enrich my life,” Teonna said when explaining why she joined NCCC. “I am seeking fulfillment.” She heard about the program from a friend several years ago, and thought it was the right program for her.
Teonna brings a lot of skills with her to NCCC, which will help throughout her term with the program. She has can speak some Spanish. She is also a team player and a hard worker.
Prior to joining NCCC, Teonna was working and going to school. She graduated from Hayward High School in 2006. She also attended Modesto Junior College. After completing the program, Teonna hopes to get a good job or finish her schooling.
Oak 1’s current project runs from May 2 to June 26 with the Coralville Lake Project in Iowa City, Iowa. The US Army Corps of Engineers at Coralville Lake partnered with Johnson County Fairgrounds for the Coralville Lake Project. At Johnson County Fairgrounds, Oak 1 is assisting with facility maintenance. At Coralville Lake, the team is repairing trails through a variety of methods.
