Smith-Geater VFW Ladies Auxiliary 8884 was instituted on April 22,2012. This was the first year to participate in the Departmemt of Iowa Ladies Auxiliary Convention. It was held at Red Oak, Iowa on June 6-9,2013. Jeanette Henry-President &Historian and Donna Roepke-conductress,musician, trustee of our local ladies auxiliary attended.

Throughout the year we helped and honored Veterans in many ways in our communities. We organized a Veterans Day program on November 11,2012. A meal was served after the ceremony for all who attended. We also went to The Vinton-Shellsburg Elementary School in Shellsburg. Along with our VFW Post 8884 we did the history of the flag. The post did The Flag Folding ceremony to the third graders and fifth graders. The students asked many good questions to our Post. The studentsalso entered the Third grade essay contest (theme: "I Love America Because") and The fifth grade (Theme: "What Patriotism Means To Me") For these we won The Best Overall Americanism Program. We brought home The Department Traveling Trophy for 2012-2013 year. The trophy will stay in Vinton for a year. Other Awards that our Auxiliary won from Department Of The VFW Ladies Auxiliary were: Legislative Historian 100% plus membership donating to The Cancer Fund Best Promotion Of The Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen All these Awards came with a Citation Of Merit (Certificate) and money to continue these programs for next year. Donna Roepke nominated Jeanette Henry for outstanding Hospital Volunteer of the year. As a member of Auxiliary 8884 they received a certificate for nominating her. Jeanette Henry was presented with a certificate for outstanding Hospital Volunteer of The Year. Carol Holmes- Department VFW ladies Auxiliary chairman also presented Jeanette with a box of Note cards & envelopes designed by The Granger Elementary School in Des Moines, Iowa. Better Holmes & Garden made these Exclusive. Jeanette volunteers at The VA Hospital in Iowa City. She also drives veterans from Benton County To the VA Hospital in Iowa City for their Appointments. She also has traveled to Minneapolis, Minnesota VA Hospital with her husband Dale to take local Veterans for their treatments and surgeries. Then when they are able to return home they go back and pick them up and return them to their home. Jeanette said," she was really surprised when they called her up to the podium to receive this award." "It is an honor to work with Veterans Daily. There are many people that volunteer all over Iowa for our Veterans." That is what our organization does for Veterans. From small to large needs we will continue to serve our Veterans as they served us and our Country. This is our Thanks to them.. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!! The Veteran had to served in a foreign country and received hazardous pay. We meet The second Sunday of every month at The US Bank Community Building at 6:30PM. Come join US.
