Peter Mousseau, from Grand Haven, Mich., is a member of Cedar 2 in NCCC’s Class 19. He arrived in Vinton on February 5, 2013, to start his 10-month service term on a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Cedar 2 is made up of eight people from across the country, and they are serving together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region throughout their term.
When asked why he joined NCCC, Peter said, “I felt it would allow me to learn and grow far more than my current plans.”
Peter brings several skills with him to NCCC, which help him be successful in his role as a Corps Member. “I've done a lot of different work and activities over the years, so I bring a diverse skill set to the program,” he said. “I also bring a thirst to learn more skills.”
Prior to NCCC, Peter graduated from Muskegon Community College in May 2012 with an associate’s degree in science and art. After finishing the program, Peter hopes to return to school and later attend law school.
Cedar 2 is about to start a project that runs from July 15 to August 2 with Jo Davies County Soil and Water Conservation District in Elizabeth, Ill. The team will be assisting a variety of natural resource agencies and non-profit organizations through work with project development, natural history, cultural resources, resource management infrastructure, and invasive species management. Tasks will include invasive species removal, building a walking bridge on a trail in a teaching forest, and general trail maintenance.
