Brad Kendhammer, from Onalaska, Wis., is a member of Cedar 6 in NCCC’s Class 19. He arrived in Vinton on February 5, 2013, to start his 10-month service term on a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Cedar 6 is made up of nine people from across the country, and they are serving together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region throughout their term.
“(NCCC) is a great way to start my service learning and to learn great things,” Brad said, when asked why he joined NCCC. He added that it also has “the opportunity to do multiple years if I choose, or try a new path.”
Brad brings several skills with him to NCCC, which help him be successful in his role as a Corps Member. He has a great work ethic, a willingness to learn and the desire to help others.
Prior to NCCC, Brad was working a seasonal job and attending annual mission trips with his church. He graduated from Onalaska High School in June 2012. After finishing the program, Brad hopes that his experience in NCCC will help direct his future plans, opening him up to new opportunities and experiences.
Some of the most influential experiences for Brad were with his church mission trips, which were much more than an obligation for him. “My mission trip experiences were life changing experiences that I will always remember and look back on in many of my life decisions,” he said.
Cedar 6 is currently working from August 9 to September 26 with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) of Omaha in Omaha, Neb. The team is assisting with initial site construction on up to four homes in preparation for the Fall Framing Frenzy. This work allows HFH of Omaha to finish homes during colder months with house dedications slated for Spring 2014.
