Quincy Richard, from Kalama, Wash., is a member of Maple 2 in NCCC’s Class 19. She arrived in Vinton on February 5, 2013, to start her 10-month service term on a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Maple 2 is made up of nine people from across the country, and they are serving together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region throughout their term.

“I chose to do a year of service because, for the last two years, I have been looking for an opportunity similar to Americorps NCCC,” Quincy said. “When I discovered this program, I decided to sign up hoping I would be a part of this experience. I've done volunteering in the past and hope one day to have a career in disaster relief.”

Quincy brings several skills with her to NCCC, which help her be successful throughout her term with the program. She is a care-taker by nature and responds well in emergency situations. She also has a strong sense of compassion for others, especially children.

Prior to joining NCCC, Quincy had been a volunteer for the local hospice, which offers a group for children ages 5 through 12 who have experienced the death of a loved one. She completed 2 years at Lower Columbia College, and graduated from Kalama High School in June of 2011. After finishing the program, Quincy plans on continuing college for a homeland security degree to eventually have a career in disaster relief.

Maple 2 is currently serving from August 10 to September 26 with Habitat for Humanity – Mid Ohio in Columbus, Ohio. The team is assisting in various roles related to construction production. These areas include new construction, ReBuilds, House Lead Assistant and construction support. While assisting on their new construction sites, Maple 2 is assisting in some of the following phases: floor truss installation, wall framing, garage construction, insulations, roofing, window/door installation and drywall.
