On Saturday September 21, 2013, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA helped out at the annual Farm Safety Day Camp, at the Vinton Fairgrounds. There were about 40 kids that came out to learn about farm safety.

A few Vinton-Shellsburg FFA helped out with teaching hidden hazards on a farm, including PTO safety, lawn mower safety, and sun safety. Members also helped with being group leaders and serving lunch. Other classes that were taught at farm safety day included ATV safety, combine safety, what happens when you aren’t safe on a farm, how to take care of an accident or wound, 911 call simulator, and chemical safety.

The Iowa Pork Producers provided lunch for all of the kids and helpers as well. Overall, we had a good turnout and a good Farm Safety Day!

GWIE September 30, 2013, 2:29 pm I just wanted to add that the Benton County Farm Bureau was also co-sponsor of this event along with help from the Benton Co Pork Producers (Not Iowa Pork) and Benton Community FFA.
