On Thursday November 14, 2013 the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter held its annual Pork BBQ night. This night is a night for members, family, and friends to come and see what our chapter has been doing this school year, as well as see the members receive their Greenhand and Chapter degrees.
Our night started out in the lunch room for the meal, and then proceeded to the auditorium.
After the officer team did their opening ceremonies, the welcome for the night was given by our superintendent, Mrs. Hainstock.
Then Karley Kenney and Riley Ries gave their Secretary’s report and the Treasurer’s report, and we moved on to Committee Reports.
In committee reports, Karley Kenney talked about District Dairy Cattle judging, and Kirkwood horse and livestock judging. Next, Emily Cashman spoke about the chapter’s Local Greenhand Night, and Jessica Alderson talked about District Greenhand Fire-Up. Sydney Walker, Hannah Seits, Katie Isbell, John Eden, Kyle Henkle, and Emily Reisch then each talked about a day of National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky that our chapter attended, and the chaperones were presented with appreciation gifts. An imovie by Emily Cashman was then played, displaying pictures and videos of our trip at Nationals.
Next, we moved on to Chapter Development. Theme and goals were discussed by reporters, Emily Cashman and Deion Dulin. Jacob Patrilla talked about Garden group. Bastian Primmer and Dawne Schminke talked about Crop plot, and Riley Ries discussed Holiday Sales.
Last but not least was Community Development. In community development, Dillon Brummer talked about Farm Safety Day and Cole Emrich talked about Yield Checks. Then, the Veteran’s Benefit was talked about by Riley Ries, Holiday Lights and Roping was talked about by Timothy Haerther, and Facebook and Twitter was talked about by Emily Cashman.
The Benton Community FFA Chapter then presented our Greenhands with their Greenhand Degrees, and the FFA Creed was given by Matthew Kimm, Erin Cantrell, Ethan Henry, Drew Wiley, Connor Miracle, Ben Eden, and Kailie Berry.
LaPorte-Dysart FFA Chapter then presented our Chapter members with their Chapter Degrees, and Mrs. Fleming talked about our American Degree recipient, Stephen Stinson.
That night we were fortunate enough to have two state FFA officers with us. Northeast State Vice President, Tony Moellers, from the North Fayette FFA Chapter and State President, Josh Earl, from the Sibley Ocheyeden FFA Chapter attended our Pork BBQ. Mrs. Fleming asked them if they would be able to give a speech to our members and guests that posed a challenge for them. Tony introduced himself, gave a little background information on himself, and talked about how important it is to stay financially sound. Then Josh presented a speech that was a story of a man who all he wanted in life was to be successful. In the end, the speech gave all of us the challenge to be as successful as we can be in life.
To end the night, Mrs. Fleming spoke about a few things in her Advisor moment, and the officers did their closing ceremonies. Overall we had a great turnout and a good night!
