Chris Hyde, from Canton, Connecticut is a corps member for Maple 2 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. He arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start his 10-month service working with a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Maple 2 is made up of nine people from across the country and they will serve together around the Midwest.
When asked why he decided to serve in the NCCC program, Chris says, “I think that service is important. So many people in my community have helped me reach where I am today, and I think I owe it to them to give back and help others reach their full potential.”
Before Chris became a NCCC service member he had graduated from Trinity College, worked several part-time jobs and continued his education at Tunxis Community College.
Maple 2’s third round project is at the Science Station, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Maple 2 will be assisting the Science Center with experiential learning at a science based summer camp program by serving as classroom assistants and organizing supplies for the camp.
