Marquis Franklin, from Laurel Maryland, is serving on team Oak 5 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. He arrived in Vinton on February 11, to start his 10-month service term. Oak 5 is made up of seven people from across the country who will serve together across the Midwest.

Marquis says, “I want to make a change in my life and explore a different opportunity.”

Before joining AmeriCorps NCCC Marquis was going to Freestate challenge academy and working at Wendy's

Oak5’s fourth round project is at the Marquette County Habitat for Humanity, in Marquette, MI. Oak 5 will be working on the construction of four homes. The homes will be in various stages of construction, so the work may include decking, wall raising, roofing, siding, drywall, painting, flooring, clean-up and other construction oriented tasks. The houses built by Marquette County Habitat For Humanity, partner families and volunteers provide safe, stable, energy efficient homes for low income families.
