On Saturday January 10, AmeriCorps NCCC-FEMA Corps team Pine 2 from the Vinton Campus volunteered in Denton, Texas at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore sells home improvement goods at a discounted price in an effort to help restore the community of Denton.

Members from Pine 2 helped to clean up the ReStore by dusting appliances and light fixtures, sweeping the store, and organizing products on the shelves of the store. It was a great way to bring the team together to serve the community in which they are spending their project round. They learned about the various ways that the ReStore and Habitat for Humanity serve Denton and how they can be utilized to make a positive impact in the community.

The staff crew working at the ReStore demonstrated their compassion for serving the community. FEMA Corps member David Wiener states, “It was very interesting and rewarding to work alongside all these people that had fully devoted themselves to volunteering. It was inspiring how much they cared about their community.”

Pine 2 enjoyed their experience serving at the ReStore and they are excited for future volunteer opportunities serving the community of Denton. Pine 2 is currently in Denton serving on their FEMA project where they are supporting the Operations Integration Branch in FEMA Region XI to prepare the region for the upcoming winter months.
