The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II and Central Region met Wednesday at 11:00 am May 27, 2015 at the 218 Roadside Park that the Garden Club maintains. Nine members attended the potluck, program, meeting and then scraping paint from post and shelter. Joyce Bratten gave the program on dividing perennials. Fran also gave a history on the 218 Roadside Park.

President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 12:25 pm. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Conservation Pledge. Members answered roll call with a perennial you plan on dividing.

Secretary Joyce Bratten read the minutes from the last meeting. There were no corrections to be made so it will stand approved as read. Treasurer Sharen Stueck gave the treasurer's report.

There were no questions on treasurer's report so it will be filed for audit.

A Red Rocket tree for Arbor Day was planted at Kiwanis Park on May 4, 2015 by seven members. Brian Elwick had the hole dug and helped the club set the tree and helped mulch around the tree.

The District II meeting was held in Hiawatha with Good Earth Garden Club as hostess. Nine members, Luanna, Fran, Joyce, Susie, Cam, Kelly, Dawn, Sharen and Michelle attended the meeting. Fran was asked to conduct the meeting in the absence of District Director Nancy Weber. Our club received the Blue Ribbon Yearbook, Blue Ribbon Club and Advanced rating for 2014.

The Plant and Bake sale was held on May 8,2015 was a big success. Fran thanked everyone for their donations and help on Thursday and Friday of the sale.

Fran talked about the State meeting on June 19, 2015.

Fran asked if the planters around town were planted yet.. They were to be done by June 1st.

Fran and Ted attended the National Garden Clubs convention in Louisville, Kentucky on May 14-18. The speakers and seminars were great.

At the Central Region luncheon at National, we received certificates for 4 of our winner on Smokey Bear and Woodsey Owl posters. They are

1st grade, Mieke Ternus—Honorable Mention

2nd grade, Mia Jacobs—Certificate of Participation

3rd grade, Sophia Vasquez—Frist place (advanced on to National)

5th grade, Kinzley Kurth—Third Place.

Fran gave the 2 winners their certificates and each a $5.00 gift card for McDonalds at Tilford and on May 26, at Shellsburg, at their awards ceremony she gave the 2 winners their certificate and each a $5.00 gift card for McDonalds.

Members signed up to take flowers to area business on Garden Week June 7-13, 2015.

Fran reminded members again to keep dates open October 2-5 for the Central Region meeting

Our next meeting will be at the Fairgrounds Secretaries Office with Kelly Kaut as hostess. She will be serving brunch at 8:30 am. Meeting will follow and then Fran will give the program on exhibiting flowers in the flower show and a workshop making designs. Members are to bring fresh flowers to make designs.
