NCCC team Cedar 3 of Vinton, Iowa is serving with the Toledo Botanical Garden and Toledo GROWS organizations in Ohio until June 11. Cedar 3 is helping bringing life back to gardens by weeding, installing raised beds, planting seasonal flowers, and shoveling compost.

Over the course of a few weeks Cedar 3 has assisted with cleaning ponds, installing and preparing garden beds in local community gardens throughout Toledo as well as painting. The team was also a part of the annual Mother’s Day sale and the Plant Distribution day in which Cedar 3 sorted over six thousand plants.

Doug Conley, the Horticulture Director, says “Our organization has benefited greatly from Cedar 3’s efforts. Specifically in the preparation to host our 30th annual plant sale and the renovation of the two acre perennial garden. Cedar 3 defines teamwork - they work cooperatively to achieve great results, are lighthearted and work hard.”

The mission of Toledo Botanical Garden/Toledo Grows is to inspire and nurture the joy of growing through stewardship of horticulture, the arts, and nature. The organization endeavors to supply and deliver to the community education in horticulture practices, sustainability, and most important, proper nutrition.
