VINTON GARDEN CLUB

JUNE 24, 2015

Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II and Central Region met at 8:30 am. May 24, 2015 at the Fairgrounds Secretary Office. Kelly Kaut treated us to a wonderful brunch. Fran Stueck gave the program on “ Tips for exhibiting flowers in the flower show at the fair”. Members then designed their own arrangement with all the beautiful home grown flowers.

President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 9:15 am.

Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Conservation Pledge.

Roll call was taken by Secretary Joyce Bratten with “Plans for exhibiting at the flower show”. Ten members answered roll call. Secretary minutes were read by Joyce Bratten. There were no corrections so they will stand approved as read.

Treasurer's Report was given by Sharen Stueck.

Unfinished Business:

State Meeting was held June 19 at the Sheraton in Iowa City. Four members Sharen Stueck, Cam Wood, Susie Hansen and Fran Stueck attended. Fran had entered the flower show on Thursday with multiple horticultural entries and one design. She received 12 blue ribbons and a top award, Horticultural Sweepstakes for her perennial collection. Fran was also installed as the 2015-2017 state parliamentarian by the National President Sandy Robinson. Cam Wood received the Circle of Roses pin.

Club members have planted town planters.

Fran mentioned that the club needed to go out and check the Tilford garden, the Blue Star Marker garden and Schrebring beds for weeds and to put down mulch were needed. School will buy the mulch for Tilford. Fran mentioned about some nice day the club needs to go to the park and get the painting done.

Fran asked if everyone had taken flowers to area businesses for Garden Week. All said yes.

New Businesses:

Fran asked everyone to keep the dates free for October 2-5 for the Central Region meeting. Fran brought the forms for us to fill out to go. The deadline to submit our forms by Sept. 11. The club will be paying some of the expenses for the members. Our help will be needed those 3 days.

Garden Therapy will be at the Annex at 1 pm on Wed, July 8. Members are to take flowers from their gardens to share with the residents to make small arrangements for all the rooms.

Club members will be touring JoEllen Krugs gardens on July 13th at 10:00 am.

Fran passed out the entry numbers, the flower show and work schedule, registration form and tags for the flower show at the fair this year. Fair starts July 22- 26. The club and the Van Horne Floralia Garden Club will clean the building and get set up for the flower show which starts on Thursday.

Our next meeting will be at Anne Dake August 26th with Kelly Kaut giving the program on “Eating your Bouquet”.

There was no more business so the meeting was adjourned.
