We would like to announce that Eastern Iowa Honor Flight #24 will depart Wednesday, May 18th, 2016 from Cedar Rapids to Washington, DC, with another group of Iowa Veterans.
This flight is sponsored by Quaker, a longtime supporter of the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight.
There are 86 Veterans on this flight.
WWII 7
Korea 55
Vietnam Era 23
Persian Gulf 1
Veterans will begin checking in at 5:10 AM, with a scheduled departure of 6:30 AM. While in Washington, they will visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice, as well as visit Arlington National Cemetery where they will witness the changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown.
Barring any delays, the ETA for touchdown in Cedar Rapids is 10:05 PM. We invite the public to come out and welcome our Veterans home. It is a very moving welcome back. Those of you who have attended in the past will know what I mean. For those who have not, please come join us and experience the opportunity to welcome them back and thank them for their service.
Parking is free, just stop at the information desk when you arrive and pick up a free parking ticket. Then when you leave, you will see a traffic lane marked for Honor Flight. Get in that lane, and give your free ticket, plus the original ticket you got when you checked into the lot, and you are good to go! It does not make any difference if you park in long or shirt term parking, but be advised, the parking lot tends to fill up quickly, so we suggest arriving early (probably no later than about 9:00 - 9:15)
