There was a rare absence for a Vinton-Shellsburg basketball game Friday evening. The familiar cap and camera belonging to Cedar Valley Daily Times/Vinton Eagle sports editor Josh Berhow were not in the customary place at the corner of the court near the home team’s basket.
Josh was not at his usual place in Vinton on Friday night because he was in Des Moines, receiving two awards from the Iowa Newspaper Association. Josh received a second place award in the sports columnist category. As sports editor, he also designs the sport pages for the Cedar Valley Times, which won third place in the sports page category among weekly newspapers of similar size.
Another Vinton journalist received an award from the INA Friday, as well. Reporter/columnist Kyle Webb received second place in the Master Columnist category
I had the privilege of working with Kyle for several months at the Vinton Eagle. In addition to working hard to write creative stories, Kyle is simply fun to be around. While I never worked with Josh, I often see him at almost every V-S sports (I think the only exception was when I went to one place for a boys' game and he covered the girls' game) event and he follows up each game with a thorough report. He also offers some enjoyable, thoughtful insights in his sports columns.
Congratulations, Kyle and Josh!
