I love a dark comedy that makes me laugh hysterically in the wee hours of the morning and 'The Road to Tender Hearts' by Annie Hartnett absolutely delivered! PJ Halliday, a 60-something former lottery winner, has spent over a decade drinking away his life at the local bar where everyone adores him-until he finds himself divorced and estranged from his youngest daughter.

Add in a weirdly co-dependent relationship with his ex-wife, and when she suddenly leaves the country, PJ decides to:

  • Quit drinking
  • Road trip to find his long-lost high school sweetheart
  • Adopt his estranged brother's grandchildren after a shocking murder-suicide
  • Bring along a death-predicting rescue cat
  • Yes, all of that. And somehow it works.

  • This book is a wild ride-not unlike life-and I won't be surprised if it's optioned for film soon. With a 4.41 rating on Goodreads, you really can't go wrong.

    Happy reading, friends!
