Since July 25th AmeriCorps NCCC team Oak 4 has been treated to incredible generosity of Oelwein while working with the city’s parks and recreation department.
The team has worked hard to complete the city’s list of projects. They have built roofs over four dugouts and shingled four more. They have mulched hundreds of trees and several playgrounds. From July 17 to July 19 they helped paint a mural on the Oelwein Chamber of Commerce building.
The City of Oelwein has opened their arms to the team since their arrival. The very first day in the city the City Council met them at their council meeting. The employees of the parks and rec department have given Oak 4 produce from their gardens and the local Amish produce auction- so much that the team has to worry about not eating it fast enough.
Due to Oelwein falling only 50 minutes away the team currently commutes from their home campus at the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School. The team is happy to enjoy the incredible hospitality of these two Iowa Cities. Oak 4 will be working in Oelwein until August 19.
