It's Almost That Time We Start Wrapping Up
By: Samantha Czerkas
Cedar 2 was sent out to Columbus, Ohio earlier in September to work with Habitat for Humanity Greater Columbus (HFHGC) for their last round project in AmeriCorps NCCC. They spent the first four weeks in Columbus working with HFHGC building houses for low income families. Every day they got split up and a couple people from the NCCC team would each go to different houses that were being built and work on several tasks throughout the day.
Unfortunately, all though Cedar 2 enjoyed working with HFHGC; they got pulled to assist with flood recovery efforts in Minot, North Dakota. They went out to Minot for two weeks and helped out the American Red Cross running and closing up a Flood Disaster Shelter. All though they weren't in Minot for long, they really made an impact the short period of time they were there. Cedar 2 has never worked with the American Red Cross before and really enjoyed working with them.
After Minot, Cedar 2 went back to Columbus, Ohio the second week of October and began working with HFHGC again. It was nice for the team to be able to come back to Columbus and finish up the last couple weeks with HFHGC..
Cedar 2 is finishing up there last couple days working with HFHGC and will be saying their goodbyes shortly. They'll be returning to the campus in Vinton for 10 days before finishing their service with NCCC and returning home.
