Name: Katie Kabot

Hometown: Stamford, Connecticut

Katie Kabot is serving as a Class 18 Team Leader at the Vinton campus and will lead a team of 10-12 Corps Members over a 10-month period. Her team will serve on four to seven service projects throughout the North Central Region.

Katie has had the opportunity to observe through various leadership roles the many components that help a community service project or entity be successful. She has also learned the importance of being able to draw attention to community issues and recruiting volunteers. Katie learned that participating in community service projects is a way of personal growth and that mentoring others to undergo this personal growth is vital for the fulfillment and enjoyment of the time they have committed. These experiences allowed Katie to see community service as a holistic process and understand that each part needs to be addressed in order for any community issue to be solved.

Katie graduated from Greenwich High School in 2007 and University of Connecticut in 2011 with a degree in Communications and Environmental Studies. Katie heard about AmeriCorps NCCC through a faculty member at the University of Connecticut who participated in an AmeriCorps program. Katie chose to do a year of service with NCCC because she is passionate about being an active citizen and building strong communities. By completing various community service projects, she has learned that this is an essential component to the success of our nation.

After completing her Team Leader year in Vinton, Katie plans on either finding a job or completing a master’s degree in the environmental or sustainable agriculture field. She also hopes to incorporate community service within this plan.
